Sažetak

The question of professional qualities of teachers is actually
answered by enumerating measurable competences. However, there are important qualities which are not measurable, such as experience, reflection (judgment) and independence. This paper deals with the meaning and relevance of those qualities and shows the importance of theory for practical experience. By reminding us of the specific, irreplaceable role of experience, reflection and independence the author emphasizes that the dominance of quantifiable empiricism and the competence-paradigm can lead to blurring and forgetting their importance.
