Sažetak

This study contributes to scholarly discourse by exploring the intricate relationship between the character and values of pre-service primary school teachers as global citizens and their epistemological beliefs. A cohort of 301 pre-service primary schoolteachers from a public university in Türkiye participated in this investigation. The evaluation of their character and values as global citizens utilized the Character and Values as Global Citizens Assessment questionnaire. Concurrently, the Epistemological Beliefs Questionnaire was administered to assess the epistemological beliefs held by these pre-service primary school teachers. Through canonical correlation analysis, this study delves into the interconnectedness between the character and values of pre-service primary school teachers as global citizens and their epistemological beliefs. The findings of the canonical analysis reveal a noteworthy correlation between the character and values of pre-service primary school teachers as global citizens and their epistemological beliefs. This correlation sheds light on the intricate dynamics shaping pre-service primary school teachers’ worldviews and cognitive frameworks, emphasizing the relevance of character and values in influencing their epistemological perspectives. This research advances our understanding of the multifaceted influences on pre-service primary schoolteachers’ professional development by bridging the gap between character attributes and epistemological beliefs. The significant correlation discovered underscores the importance of cultivating a holistic approach to teacher education that integrates character development alongside traditional academic training. This insight holds implications for curriculum design, pedagogical strategies, and teacher preparation programs, suggesting a need for a comprehensive framework that nurtures both the global citizenship attributes and epistemological foundations of future educators.
