Abstract
The theme of this paper focuses on a part of Zoran Kompanjet’s dramatic opus, specifically on the Čakavian translation of Ruzante’s comedy Muškardin and on his original comedy titled Šete bandijere. Initially, the author’s translations of Italian plays into the Čakavian dialect, which served as a basis for writing his only original drama, will be examined. The analysis will begin with a brief review of the translation of the Renaissance comedy Muškardin, whose characteristics will be comparatively examined in relation to the features of the contemporary work Šete bandijere. The interpretation of the latter work will focus on elements of the modern and traditional, as well as on techniques through which the comedic is sublimated with the tragic. Special emphasis will be placed on the character of Perdica as the main driver of the dramatic action and on the term »perdicovština« or fickleness, as a timeless social phenomenon. In conclusion, the significance of Kompanjet’s dramatic work, especially the translations of Italian comedies, and his role within the framework of both the Čakavian and broader national literature, will be highlighted.
