Sažetak
Due to the high concentration of population in a relatively small area and the rapid development of traffic, transport has become a factor that hinders the development of cities and the mobility of people. The negative effects of traffic are increasingly evident — reduced vehicle speeds, traffic congestion, increased transportation costs, decreased reliability and safety, stress, and similar issues have become everyday challenges for modern society. Solving the problem of people’s mobility is one of the fundamental tasks of every city and broader community. Given the limited spatial resources, the rational use of existing road infrastructure has become one of today’s key challenges. One effective way to align transport supply with demand is the implementation of High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes. These lanes promote the concept of ride-sharing, thereby helping to reduce the overall number of vehicles on the road. In addition to traffic-related benefits, HOV lanes also have a positive environmental impact and are regularly included in strategic documents such as Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans. The main objectives of implementing HOV lanes include reducing traffic congestion, minimizing the negative environmental impact of road traffic, avoiding high costs associated with constructing new infrastructure, improving traffic safety, and enhancing the overall mobility of the population.
