Sažetak
The digital euro represents a form of money that retains the fundamental characteristics of cash, including its status as legal tender and the guarantee of stable value ensured by the central bank. Its introduction is not intended to replace existing forms of physical currency but rather to serve as their functional complement. This paper analyzes the concept of the digital euro, with particular emphasis on its impact on the payment system and user perceptions in the Republic of Croatia. As part of the research, a survey was conducted that encompassed demographic data, respondents’ attitudes, and information regarding the acceptance of the digital euro, considering citizens’ prior experiences with the introduction of the euro, as well as current trends in digital payments. Based on the collected data, an analysis was carried out addressing user readiness, trust in institutions, and perceptions of the benefits and risks associated with the digital euro. The results provide an overview of Croatian citizens’ attitudes and highlight the key opportunities and challenges associated with the implementation of the digital euro in the Republic of Croatia.
