Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the attitudes of primary school teachers towards the use of artificial intelligence in Music Education. The study was conducted by means of an online survey on a sample of 234 primary school teachers in Croatia. Sociodemographic data were collected using a General Information Questionnaire, while teachers’ attitudes were assessed using the Questionnaire on Primary School Teachers’ Attitudes towards the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Music Education. A two-factor structure of the scale was confirmed. The first factor refers to teachers’ self-assessed competence in using artificial intelligence in Music Education and their evaluation of the benefits of its use, whereas the second factor relates to perceptions of the impact of the development of artificial intelligence on the future role of teachers and the possibilities for applying artificial intelligence in various areas of Music Education. The results indicate that teachers hold positive attitudes towards the use of artificial intelligence in music teaching. No differences were found in teachers’ attitudes towards artificial intelligence with respect to years of teaching experience and the use of applications incorporating artificial intelligence. Furthermore, teachers who find it easier to master technology perceive themselves as more competent in using artificial intelligence in music teaching and rate the benefits of its use more highly.
