Abstract
Die Verlusterfahrung, die den Untergang des habsburgischen Vielvölkerstaates begleitet, gilt als ein zentrales Thema im OEuvre Joseph Roths. Sowohl für die frühen ›Heimkehrerromane‹ und Reportagen wie auch für die späten, nostalgisch getönten Erzählwerke und publizistischen Texte ist eine Konstellation postimperialer Verflechtungen charakteristisch, die mit dem Zerfall eurasischer Imperien
und der Entstehung neuer Nationalstaaten verbunden ist. Dieser Problematik wird anhand zweier repräsentativer Werke näher nachgegangen. Dabei geht es um den Stellenwert postimperialer Diskurse in Roths Spätwerk und ihre spezifische Ausformung in fiktionalen bzw. in journalistisch-essayistischen Textformaten.
