Abstract

Different approaches, developed in new media art, in this paper are seen as related to three main strategies – transformation, creation and connection with cyberspace. This artistic appropriation of cyberspace is linked with the transformation of the media-sphere. The paper argues that art responds to the transformation of artistic practice into marketing practice with the transformation of the media-sphere into an unstable space progressively defined by the artist tribe. This flanking furthermore acts on cyberspace users. Artists transform uniformed media public into migrants that substitute participation in the global spectacle with participation in the artistic life. Abandoning the comfort of museum and art gallery spaces, new media artists reinterpret the artistic practice of penetrating into public space by appropriating cyberspace as a new place of interaction of artwork and its audience.
