This article is to show the development of religious dimension of the intercultural education in public schools from the time it was introduced, following the measures and suggestions of the Council of Europe education policy, until its implementation in local context, based on examples of good practice and results of relevant international researches with a concluding comment on the existing situation and future development measures in Croatian education system. So far all international researches have pointed to the need for better training of students with regard to the understanding of religious diversity in the world, as well as the need for teacher training in improving the quality of lessons on these themes.
