Abstract

The paper presents an interpretation of the results of an empirical research conducted in the course of 1994 tourist season in Istria, Cres and Lošinj. The author’s attention is mainly directed to the analysis of the tourist typology. The research of the sociocultural tourist profiles has been carried out by means of several groups of variables: 1. previous holidays; 2. expectations; 3. tourist activities; 4. tourists’ consumption and expenditure. Following the results of the research the author has concluded that the typology of the tourists coming to the area under survey is a significant factor vitally important for further strategic development of tourism as well as for practical decision-making regarding appropriate defining of the tourism supply for the following season.
