Abstract

To qualify students for life and lifelong learning, it is necessary to awake their desire and motivation for acquiring knowledge. Students can be motivated through various motivation techniques, active forms and work methods. The aim of this work was to explore the influence of discovery learning as a teaching strategy on students' motivation in teaching Biology. 20 8th grade students took part in this exploration in a primary school in Solin. The students' motivation in teaching biology was explored using survey sampling before and after the intervention. The results show a positive influence of this teaching strategy on students' motivation and activity. Students were more active during classes, mostly because of the way they were learning, taking part in group work and presenting practical work. The acquired knowledge through discovery learning was rated as being excellent by 13 in 20 students. Even though this form of work requires more time for planning teaching, teachers should apply it as often as possible in teaching due to the given values.
