Abstract

The author presents a learning scenario or a lesson plan on the medieval anti-Judaism and modern anti-Semitism. It encourages secondary school teachers to incorporate Europeana Collections database sources in their teaching and their students to use and explore this database in order to examine and analyze connections between medieval anti-Judaism and modern anti-Semitism. The main aim of the learning scenario is to understand that anti-Semitism is not an exclusively modern phenomenon, that the roots of anti-Semitism can be traced back to medieval time and that the stereotypical representation of the Jews is rooted in the European culture. According to the proposed learning scenario, students will analyze visual materials, discuss them and order them chronologically. The proposed learning methods will improve students' presentation skills, group and individual work. The article covers the examples of visual materials and group work questions.
