Abstract
Based on the research conducted by Wankel and Kreisel (1985) an exercise enjoyment inventory was constructed and applied to a sample of 23 girls and 23 boys from the fifth class of a primary school in Zagreb. In order to investigate the hypothetical structure of the inventory (the intrinsic, social and extrinsic exercise enjoyment motives), its factor structure was determined for girls and for boys separately, because the multivariate discriminant analysis showed statistically significant differences between the two groups. Neither in girls nor in boys was the hypothesis completely confirmed. In both groups the social and extrinsic exercise enjoyment motives were isolated, while the intrinsic motives were split into the two following factors: the excitement of the game and improving the skills of the game in girls, on the one hand, and the challenge and improving the skills of the game in boys, on the other.
