Abstract

For thousands of years, social interaction was built exclusively on face-to-face communication. With the arrival and development of communication technologies, as well as the development of the Internet, new forms of socialising have appeared that do not suit every type of person. Spatial and temporal distance is no longer an obstacle for a sent message not to be received in real-time thousands of kilometres away, and these newly created products and systems create their own, ever wider, audiences and their own communication rules and social communication patterns every day. The purpose of this paper is to show the effect of the process of digitisation and globalisation on different generations – baby boomers, generation X, generation Y, and generation Z. Using the survey method, we investigated the differences between generations in terms of knowledge of digital media (new media). In addition, we also investigated the differences in the use of new media and in the manner of obtaining the desired information.
