Abstract

The estabkishment objective of an equestrian center in Istrian County was to foster a sustainable rural development and promote multifunctional agriculture. This paper analyzes the key factors influencing a potential for such a center, including the natural, economic, and social aspects. Applying the SWOT and TOWS analyses, the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats were identified, with a particular emphasis being placed on a necessity of infrsatructural investments and professional workforce training. Despite challenges, the results demonstrated that Istria has a significant potential for the development of equestrian sports and tourism, making it a model for a sustainable development in rural areas.
