KAJKAVIAN LINGUISTIC SEDIMENTS IN THE MEDIEVAL CROATIAN

Sažetak
After moving to their new homeland, the Croats found the Slavs already living there. A linguistic analysis of written records coming from the folk-descending rulers period shows that those Slavs spoke Kajkavian, and were different if compared to Chakavian-speaking Croats.
The Kajkavian language area coincided with the early medieval Croatian State area. The Cetina River was the farthermost eastern border of the area where Kajkavian was spoken, and the western border of that area was the Island of Rab.
