Induction of bacteriophage in lactic streptococci

Sažetak

Eight strains of lactic streptococci were examined for lysogeny by treatment with ultraviolet light and Mitomycin C. Induction of lysis in five strains de-mostrated what lysogenic state is very common in lactic streptococci. No one indicator strain has been found. The possible significance of lysogeny for cheese making practice has been discussed.
