Abstract
Many pupils consider reading to be boring and difficult. The sole act of reading in in mother tongue is often a difficult task, which is most usually done because pupils are compelled to do so, while reading in a foreign language is unknown and causes fear. However, it does not have to be so. It is necessary to present the text in a different, more interesting way and point out the benefits of reading, writing and listening that learning via text enables. Beside the fact that reading enriches one’s vocabulary, the text also allows pupils to learn about the other cultures, and to learn through context. In addition, writing in a foreign language is a challenge that a teacher sets in front of pupils by giving them guidance and always rewarding effort. This paper represents learning English via text in the first, third, sixth and seventh grade. The paper presents a practical experience, and aims to point out the importance that text has, while learning English as a second language. Since many pupils do not like to read, and writing represents a great challenge, this paper presents a way that makes reading interesting, writing easier, and how to point out the importance of learning through context.
