Sažetak
Language evolves at various linguistic levels, which may cause certain expressions or words to become »obsolete«. This evolution requires new translations of texts, including the Bible. The Gospel of John, originally written in koine Greek, serves as an example of translation methodology. The text is relatively straightforward; however, each new translation introduces different translation solutions for certain words and expressions due to ongoing changes within each language. The paper employs a contrastive and diachronic analysis focused on selected psychological and cognitive verbs to examine how these verbs have changed linguistically and how their translation has varied from the 16th century to the present-day Croatian and Polish. It also investigates whether there are any deviations in morphosyntactic, and semantic aspects compared to both the original text and the Vulgate. This research contributes to a project aimed at creating an interlinear translation of the New Testament.
