Sažetak

Front-of-pack (FOP; Front-of-Pack) nutrition labelling is an important tool for promoting healthier diets. By providing clear and easy-to-understand nutritional information on food products, such labels support consumers in making healthier food choices, while encouraging manufacturers to improve the nutritional value of their products. Current EU legislation requires a table with nutritional information on the back of food packaging, which is often difficult for the average consumer to see and understand, while the labelling of nutritional information on the front of the pack is allowed on a voluntary basis and left to Member States and manufacturers. In 2020, the European Commission announced that it would propose harmonized mandatory nutrition labelling for food products for all Member States by 2022, which would contribute to improving consumers' eating habits and health outcomes. As there is no consensus among Member States on which system would be most appropriate or mandatory at EU level, the European Commission has not yet taken a decision on harmonized simplified nutrition labelling. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the regulations and status on the topic of front-of-pack nutritional labelling in the European Union member states, and to show how this is handled in some other countries around the world.
