  • Dubrovnik Annals

Dubrovnik Annals has been created in order to present the most important results of Croatian and regional scholarship on Dubrovnik Republic (Ragusa) to the international audiences. Although it was for centuries one of the most important Mediterranean urban centers – an independent republic which mediated between the Christian states and the Ottoman Empire – Dubrovnik has been largely neglected in the international scholarship. On the other hand, there is a remarkably rich tradition of research on the city’s history, written in Croatian and thus largely inaccessible to the international researchers. For almost two decades Dubrovnik Annals has been systematically translating and publishing in English the most important recent articles dealing with the history of Dubrovnik from the early middle ages until the present. By presenting this material to the English speaking audiences Dubrovnik Annals should make an important contribution to most diverse fields of historical and Slavic studies - from economic, demographic and social history all the way to studies of republicanism, frontier societies or Slavic literature and linguistics. Moreover, the Annals also publishes dozens of book reviews, mostly of Croatian and regional studies dedicated to the history of Dubrovnik, Adriatic and the Balkans, thus providing an overview of the less known historiographies of South-Eastern Europe.
  • Anali Zavoda za povijesne znanosti HAZU u Dubrovniku

The Annals of the Institute for Historical Sciences of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU) in Dubrovnik is an interdisciplinary journal in Croatian dedicated to the history of Dubrovnik Republic and the Adriatic. For more than fifty years the Anali have served as a central publication for the vibrant ex-Yugoslav scholarship on Dubrovnik, especially the medieval and early modern period during which that city-republic was an important Mediterranean center. The Anali have published a significant number of studies from various disciplines, most prominently history, art history, history of literature, ethnology, archeology, demography and Slavic studies. Making this mass of material available to the broad international audiences would be an important contribution to the variety of fields, most obviously Slavic studies and history, especially that of the Mediterranean and the Balkans. It should be stressed that the relevance of Anali by far surpasses the Croatian context. Linguistically the journal is accessible to the entire Northern Balkans, even the general Slavic readership, while the rest of international community can access it at least partially through the article summaries in English language.
